At St Nicholas, we believe that food is more than just nourishment – it’s a source of comfort, culture, and connection. That’s why we’re so proud of our kitchen and the dedicated team behind it. In April 2025, our kitchen was awarded a 5-star rating by Brisbane City Council. This recognition is a testament to the passion, care, and high standards our kitchen staff bring to every meal.
Our menu features Greek and non-Greek cuisine, with all meals freshly prepared on-site each day. The kitchen staff work hard to ensure residents’ preferences are met as far as practicable, helping each person feel cared for and at home. Non-Greek residents will also have their food preferences catered to wherever possible.
Meals are planned in consultation with a qualified dietitian to ensure they are nutritious, balanced, and suited to the needs of our residents. On admission, a diet preference form is completed and forwarded to the kitchen, and the kitchen supervisor will also personally discuss food preferences with new residents. Hostel Carers and Nursing Home staff communicate residents’ likes and dislikes to the kitchen, so we can continue to provide enjoyable, nutritious meals.
The dietitian regularly reviews the menu and meets with residents to hear their feedback. The kitchen supervisor is also kept informed through Resident Committee meetings to ensure resident voices are heard.
Menus are displayed daily in both Greek and English in each dining room, and staff are always happy to assist if you’d like help understanding what’s on offer. Special diets and food allergies are managed carefully by our catering staff in consultation with our doctor and dietitian.
At St Nicholas, we take pride in offering meals that nourish the body and warm the heart because we want you to feel at home in every way.
